The project
What we did
Raider Painting restored a worn aluminum helipad deck with a specialized waterproofing and anti-skid deck-coating system and FAA-approved markings. Because the deck was aluminum, our crew used magnetic shot-blasting equipment to remove the existing coating, then thoroughly cleaned the remaining blast media from between the aluminum panels.
Every panel seam was injected with elastomeric polyurethane caulking, and the entire deck was patched and sanded to create a level surface. We then applied a 100% solids epoxy base coat and second coat, with aggregate broadcast to refusal for an anti-skid surface, followed by a polyurethane finish coat in the specified base color.
For the finishing work, an artist laid out the helipad circles, while our crew completed the multiple markings, insignias, landing identifiers, and stenciled numbers. The project, including all helipad markings, was completed in accordance with FAA-approved requirements and with FAA approval.
