Project support services
The work that comes with a coating job: surface prep and blasting, containment, access and scaffolding, tank repair, and coating inspections. We plan it into the estimate so one contractor handles the whole project.
Overview
The work around the coating
Every painting or coating project has work around the edges. The surface has to be cleaned and profiled, the crew has to reach it, the dust and overspray have to be contained, and someone has to check the result. We handle all of that as part of the job instead of sending you to find three more trades.
What comes with the job
- Surface preparation and blasting: shot blasting, abrasive blasting, water blasting, diamond grinding, power-tool and hand-tool cleaning, and degreasing. We coordinate the blasting work and oversee it as part of the coating project.
- Floor leveling and sloping: a flowable concrete product over an existing slab to create a new, level surface, or to slope a floor to drain, before the coating goes down.
- Encapsulation and containment: scaffolding wraps, shrouds, and enclosures that keep blast media, dust, and overspray off the rest of the facility and out of the air and water.
- Specialty access and scaffolding: scaffolding, swing stages, boom lifts up to 130 feet, and spider lifts, so crews reach high rises, pier undersides, towers, and tight spots safely.
- Tank repair and welding: repairs to steel before a tank is lined or coated, so the coating goes onto sound metal.
- Coating inspections and consultation: help choosing the right system for the surface and the conditions, and inspection of prep and film thickness during and after the job.
Why prep comes first
Coatings fail when the prep is skipped. Rust, oil, scale, old failing coatings, chlorides near the coast, and loose concrete all stop a new coating from bonding. The groundwork decides the outcome of a project, so we assess the surface first, clean it, remove what has to come off, fill cracks, and profile it for the coating that’s going on.
The method depends on the surface. Shot blasting and diamond grinding on concrete floors. Abrasive blasting on steel and masonry. Water blasting and degreasing where contaminants are the problem. Hand tools for small or hard-to-reach areas.
Getting to the work
Access is part of the plan from the site visit on. At Paseo Colorado we used extensive scaffolding and a 130-foot spider lift to reach the multi-story areas and the clock tower. At the Santa Monica Pier we bolted scaffolding to the pier’s underside to reach the steel ride supports and used encapsulation to keep debris out of the water. At the Wyndham Oceanside Pier Resort we built pedestrian tunnels so guests could keep using the hotel under the work.
Value engineering
Tell us your objectives, budget, and the physical conditions, and we’ll tell you where the money matters. Sometimes a different system or a different sequence gets the same result for less. Sometimes a maintenance program beats a full repaint.

Can I hire Raider just for sandblasting or scaffolding?
These services come as part of a painting or coating project we’re doing. We coordinate the blasting, access, containment, and prep so the coating job runs as one project with one contractor.
Who does the blasting?
We coordinate the blasting work and oversee it on site from start to finish, along with the rest of the prep and the coating work.
What is encapsulation and containment?
Wrapping the work area so blast media, dust, debris, and overspray stay in and off the rest of your facility, the people in it, and the environment around it. On a pier that means keeping debris out of the water. Inside a plant it means keeping production clean.
Do you inspect your own work?
Yes. Prep and film thickness are checked during the job, and we walk the finished work with you before we call it done.
