Grave risks to human safety and health are some of the main reasons why food processing facilities must adhere to strict environmental compliance standards. Unlike ordinary production plants, food processing facilities must be clean and free from dangerous contaminants that can end up being ingested by humans.

Food processing plants fall under the responsibility of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which evaluates the environmental and sanitation standards of the facility.
