When it comes to choosing sealants for commercial building waterproofing, silicone-based sealant products rate the highest in industry standards. Although they are more expensive than other types of sealants, these products are very effective and carry the longest warranty of service, lasting for 20 years or more when applied correctly.

Silicone-based sealants provide the highest levels of versatility due mostly to their superior adhesion to almost any type of surface. They can bond strongly to wood surfaces, any types of fibrous materials, glass surfaces, plastic and metal materials, and even previously-coated surfaces.

Silicone-based sealant technology came from nuclear and nanotechnology researches. As such, commercial building waterproofing projects can rely on silicone-based sealants to be very stable and highly-resistant to extreme and fluctuating temperatures, UV radiation and other severe conditions. They also have good chemical and electrical stability, making them useful even in underwater or marine waterproofing.

The cost of silicone-based sealants is due to the use of silicone, which is an expensive material compared to the materials used by other types of sealants. But aside from the above-mentioned properties, silicone-based sealants are also easy to apply in commercial building waterproofing.

In mission-critical operations such as those in an off-shore oil rig, silicone-based sealants are the preferred choice for waterproofing, because of their ability as a fire retardant.
